Photographic Stage

Hiroshi Sugimoto

Shooting american movie theaters since the 70's, Sugimoto uses exposures that extend through the length of the movie. The screen becomes a glowing window of light, illuminating the environment of the theater itself. The movie's defining content is removed and it becomes an illustration of a relationship between time and spacial perception.
